King Bed Quilt Covers

Climbing into a king bed after a long day feels like a small luxury, with room to roll over without waking anyone and enough pillows to read in comfort. A well-chosen king quilt cover adds to that feeling. It's the largest single piece of fabric in most main bedrooms, so it does a lot of the work in deciding how the room looks, while keeping your quilt clean and easy to care for.

King Quilt Cover Size Explained

A king quilt cover is made for a king quilt or doona, and in Australia it typically measures 245 x 210 cm. Most of our king sets are made to that measurement, though one or two ranges differ by a few centimetres, so it's always worth checking the product page. The cover is wider than the mattress on purpose, so the quilt drapes down each side instead of stopping at the edge.

Don't confuse king with super king. A super king cover is both wider and longer, and a super king quilt won't fit inside a king cover without bunching. Check the label on your quilt before you buy, then choose the cover to suit it. Our bedlinen sizing guide sets out each size if you'd like to compare.

King Doona Cover or Quilt Cover?

In Australia, a king doona cover and a king quilt cover are the same thing. Doona is simply the word many of us grew up with, while quilt cover is what you'll see on most labels. Either way, it's the removable cover that slips over your quilt insert and fastens closed, ready to come off for a wash whenever it needs one.

Because the cover takes the daily wear, your quilt stays cleaner for longer, and you can change the look of the bedroom just by swapping one cover for another. Plenty of people keep two, a lighter cotton for summer and something warmer or more textured for winter.

Crisp, Textured or Patterned

Start with the feel you want. For a crisp, tailored bed, 1000 thread count cotton in the Soho and Ambassador sets or 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton in the Bespoke sets give a smooth, hotel-style finish. Longer Egyptian cotton fibres make a fabric that feels silky and resists pilling over time.

If you'd rather the bed had more personality, waffle, jacquard and tufted designs bring texture you can see across the room, while florals, geometrics and checks add colour and pattern. Velvet and faux fur designs suit the cooler months, when you want the bed to feel as warm as it looks.

King Quilt Cover Sets That Finish the Bed

Most of our king quilt cover sets come with two matching standard pillowcases. If you sleep on longer king pillows, look for king pillowcases, which are made to fit them without bunching. To build height at the bedhead, many designs have Euro pillowcases and filled cushions available as add-ons.

Layer European pillows at the back, your sleeping pillows next and a single cushion in the middle, then drape a throw over the end of the bed. It takes a minute and turns a made bed into one that looks styled.
