FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do reed aroma diffusers work?

A reed diffuser releases fragrance passively: no power, no heat. Porous rattan or fibre reeds sit in a bottle of scented oil and absorb the liquid through capillary action, then evaporate it into the air over weeks or months. Flipping the reeds every few days refreshes the scent. Our Linen Studio range uses a triple-scented oil formulation for stronger throw than budget reed diffusers.

How long does a reed diffuser last?

A 100 ml reed diffuser typically scents a room for 6 to 10 weeks, while a 500 ml bottle lasts around 4 to 6 months. Throw depends on how many reeds you use, the size of the room and how often you flip the sticks. Drier climates and air-conditioned rooms shorten the life. A 500 ml diffuser like our Hoteluxe Moso Bamboo suits larger living spaces or open-plan areas.

Which fragrance suits a bedroom, living room or bathroom best?

For bedrooms, soft and calming scents like white jasmine, iris or vanilla help wind down before sleep. Living rooms can carry stronger fragrances - moso bamboo, lemongrass and freesia are welcoming without being too sweet. Bathrooms work well with fresh, clean notes such as bamboo white tea or french pear. Our French Pear reed diffuser is a balanced everyday choice that works in most rooms.

What size diffuser do I need for a large open-plan room?

For a small bedroom or bathroom (under 15 sqm), a 100 ml diffuser is enough. Living rooms and master bedrooms (15–30 sqm) need 200–500 ml. Open-plan living and kitchen spaces work best with a 500 ml diffuser, often placed at two ends of the room for even coverage. Our Hoteluxe Vanilla 500 ml is sized for those larger areas.

What's the difference between a reed diffuser and a scented candle?

Reed diffusers scent a room continuously, day and night, without being lit, which is useful in spaces you can't supervise like bedrooms, hallways and kids' rooms. Candles deliver a stronger short-burst scent and warm atmosphere when lit, but only release fragrance while burning. Many people use both: a diffuser for the constant base scent, candles for moments. Browse our scented candle range for complementary fragrance options.

Are reed diffusers safe around pets and children?

Reed diffusers are generally safer than candles because there's no open flame or hot wax, but the oil itself can irritate skin if spilled and is harmful if swallowed. Place diffusers on shelves out of reach of toddlers and pets, and wipe up any drips. Cats are particularly sensitive to essential oils, so avoid diffusers in rooms where cats spend extended time, or choose milder synthetic fragrances over pure essential-oil blends.
