Textured European Pillowcases

Our Textured Pillowcases collection combines Bouclé and Pascal weaves to give your bed instant depth and softness. Use them as the front layer to break up flat cotton or linen, and to get that styled, decorator look without changing your whole quilt cover. Two textures, one purpose — make the bed look finished.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is boucle fabric?

Boucle (pronounced boo-CLAY) is a woven or knitted fabric made from looped, curled yarn that creates a distinctively bumpy, textured surface. The word is French for "curled", referring to the loops in the weave. In home textiles, boucle is valued for its tactile warmth and organic, relaxed appearance, adding visible texture that smooth fabrics like cotton or satin can't replicate. Our guide to unique bedding fabrics and textures covers more on distinctive textile choices.

Are boucle pillowcases for sleeping or decoration?

Mainly decoration. The looped, textured surface of the boucle is visually striking but not particularly comfortable as a sleeping surface, the loops can catch on hair, and the texture is less smooth against skin than cotton or satin. Boucle pillowcases work best as European square pillowcases propped at the back of a dressed bed. For ideas on how to layer decorative and sleeping pillowcases together, our bedroom cushion guide is a useful starting point.

What colours do boucle pillowcases come in?

The range is available in a wide palette including off-white, linen, blush, silver, dark grey, charcoal, chocolate, rust, ruby, green, and slate. The looped texture means colours appear more muted and natural-looking than in flat-weave fabrics, off-white and linen tones especially suit the organic aesthetic boucle creates. The blush boucle European pillowcase gives a good sense of how colour and texture interact.

Does boucle pill or snag over time?

Boucle can pill and snag if the looped yarns catch on rough surfaces, jewellery, or hook-and-loop fasteners. This is more of a concern with boucle upholstery than with pillowcases, which handle lighter use. To minimise wear, keep boucle pillowcases away from abrasive contact and wash gently. The looped structure also means boucle doesn't crease badly, it tends to look casual and relaxed rather than worn. Handle with the same care you'd give any textured fabric.

What size are boucle pillowcases?

Boucle pillowcases in the Manchester Collection range are available in the European square format (65 × 65 cm), designed to fit a European or continental pillow insert. As with most decorative textured fabrics, the European square format suits boucle well, it's the ideal shape for the back-of-bed styling role these pillowcases are designed for. Our pillowcase buying guide explains the difference between European, standard, and king sizes.

How do I wash boucle pillowcases?

Boucle is best treated gently. Machine wash on a delicate cycle in cold or lukewarm water using a mild detergent. Avoid hot washes, which can cause the looped yarns to shrink, tighten, or pill. Turn inside-out before washing to protect the textured surface. Air-dry flat or tumble dry on low heat, and avoid a high-speed spin cycle. Our bedding wash guide covers general care principles that apply to delicate textured fabrics.
